Against the background of the growing popularity of the ChatGPT AI bot, the EU authorities intend to strengthen control over artificial intelligence. The relevant discussions are already underway in Brussels.
European Commissioner Thierry Breton told Reuters about the European Commission’s close cooperation with the EU Council and the European Parliament to clarify existing rules and introduce new ones in the Artificial Intelligence Law.
In the European Union, they fear that the capabilities of chatbots could be used to spread misinformation, fraud and plagiarism. Breton noted that AI technologies like ChatGPT need global standards for the industry to get established and regulated as soon as possible.
“As ChatGPT demonstrated, AI-based solutions can offer great opportunities for individuals and businesses, but they can also come with risks. This is why we need a strong regulatory framework to regulate the AI industry,” Breton said.

“People should be told they are dealing with a chatbot, not a human.”
Industry representatives are wary of the possibility of tightening controls on AI technologies. According to the Applied AI survey, 51% of respondents expect processes to slow down if a new AI law is passed.
